Cast and Characters
Ronald Hughes (played by Marlon Rice)- is a strong intelligent black man, who was once a black panther and black activist. Ronald is now a high profile attorney who handles mostly police misconduct cases, or cases that involve corruption in the police department. Needless to say he is not a big fan of the police. Ronald grew up in the south, he sees the same prejudices still exists today, but just well hidden. Ronald is stubborn and is hard to change his views, even though Ronald at one point fell in love with a white lawyer that he worked a case with, had an affair that resulted in a child.
John Zywinskiy (played by Howie Locke)- John a polish fromer Chicago cop, John is from a long line of police officers his grandfather came over from Poland, and got on the police department in New York. John's father followed in his fathers footsteps and became a New York police officer, John's father met his wife(Johns mother) when he was working a civil rights rally, they feel in love and married three weeks later, John's mother was a free spirit who believed in love and peace and Johns father a non tolerant raciest, it was an odd couple from the beginning but they loved each other. They struggled raising four sons together who all became police officers, John being the oldest 47, Michael 44 and Randy 41 and Derrick 38, after John accepted the job on Chicago's police force, John packed his wife Mary and their son,(John Jr.) and moved to Chicago, shortly after his move his brother derrick was killed in the line of duty on a traffic stop. Three months later John and Mary's second child was born which they named after Derrick. John worked hard and became police chief of Chicago. John lost his position when he took a lot of heat from the press after a police beating of a black man, Al Sharpton, who claimed officers were raciest Picketed for John's removal. Since the Mayor was up for reelections he forced John to resign, with a nice pension and no embarrassment. Shortly after he was replaced as chief by a black man, John packed his family up and retired to LA, where he does advisory work for the LAPD.
Rachel Hughes- (played by Renata Wilson) Rachel is a very attractive girl with Carmel colored skin, and curly brown hair. Rachel Graduated from Harvard law school, Rachel really doesn't want to be a lawyer but it was hard to get away from her fathers insistence to go to law school, be a lawyer carry on his cause. Rachel really wants to be a , singer song writer, she is very talented with the acoustic guitar and song writing. She feels there is something her parents have been hiding from the family for years but is not quite sure what it is.
Derrick Zywinskiy- (played by Hunter Smit) Derrick a graduate d from NYU with a degree in film, Derrick is very handsome with dark hair and piercing green eyes together with his perfect body Derrick could have walked out of a magazine. Derrick, was more attached to his grandmother who, was young and vibrant during the sixties, she taught Derrick that we are all brothers a sisters despite our skin color and he should be color blind. Derrick always found himself, torn between what he believed in and what his father and grandfather wanted for him. Derrick's father would.
Lisa Hughes (played by Felina Banks)- A professor of sociology at the State university, Lisa is an older image of her daughter. Lisa has always been a strong women, her father was the first black senator from her home state. He is now the president of the NAACP, it really gets to her to see Eleanore (Derrick's mother), not being the strong women she knows she is inside. She encourages her to do the things she dreams of doing, Lisa gave her a make over and changed her look for the better. Lisa feels she has big shoes to fill with her father and is considering running for congress.
Eleanore Zywinskiy (played by Hanah Horlacher) - A house wife, who waits on her family hand and foot, she never went to college or followed her own dreams. Eleanore married John right out of high school, when they met at a local hang out, they were so in love, John had just been accepted into the police academy Eleanore was just graduating from high school. Eleanore was pregnant with the couples 1st child John Jr. when they were married the day after her graduation. Eleanore loves her family and life but always thinks about the life she could have had if she hadn't gotten pregnant. Eleanore is a pretty women, she was always the smart pretty popular girl in her high school. She looks up to Lisa and how she has her career and her family, Eleanore is a very talented painter, but never pursued it .
